Geopark Guardians Permanent Seminar
The Geopark Guardians program was born as a community strategy within the UNESCO Global Geopark Comarca Minera. Its objective is to strengthen the Geopark’s presence across the nine municipalities that make up the territory—home to 628,746 people—while fostering heritage care, protection, and sustainable development. To form these groups, the Geopark issued a call for local participants in each municipality. Following an information session, these individuals chose to take an active role as heritage custodians, undergoing a workshop-based training course on geological, mining, natural, and cultural heritage. The Guardians include artisans, traditional cooks, nature guides, farmers, carpenters, educators, local officials, small business owners, and producers of regional goods such as honey, jams, wine, and cheese. This diversity provides the program with a broad base of knowledge and action, deeply rooted in the environment and cultural practices of each locality. Geopark Youth Participate in Reading Promotion Workshop
The reading promotion workshop was successfully held at the CECyTEH Omitlán de Juárez campus, with the participation of 100 students from groups 2° “B” and 2° “G.” During the activity, students took part in the talk titled “Read and You Shall Lead” (Lee y conducirás), given by Luz María Ruiz, a member of the Geopark’s Scientific-Technical Advisory Committee. She highlighted the importance of reading as a tool to strengthen knowledge, improve academic performance, and develop writing and spelling skills. Additionally, a selection of books available at the Geopark Cultural Center Library – “Casa de la Maestra Con” was presented. Students were invited to borrow copies for reading and subsequent return.

WE LIVE IN A GEOPARK!
This was the title of the talk and workshop held with the community and members of the El Puente Ejidal Committee in Mineral del Chico. Mineral del Chico is home to six Geosites recognized by UNESCO for their international geological significance. One of them is the El Milagro Mining Works, located in the community of El Puente. This talk allowed for a collective reflection on the importance of inhabiting, caring for, and valuing our territory through the core values of the Geopark. We would like to thank the Ejidal Commissioner, Claudia Patricia Aguilar, for her collaboration in developing this activity, as well as all the attendees for their participation.
Discover the Geoparks of Latin America
The Latin American and Caribbean Geoparks Network (Red GeoLAC) is a community dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of the geological, paleontological, and cultural heritage of the region. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange, the network seeks to strengthen public awareness regarding the importance of geoparks in conserving the planet’s history and fostering the sustainable development of local communities. The network is composed of several UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGp), each possessing unique geological and cultural characteristics.
