Technical Scientific Advisory Committee

The Scientific Technical Advisory Committee (CoTeCi) is integrated by a group of technicians, professionals and researchers with knowledge and experience in the fields of education, sustainability, culture, tourism, gender equity and inclusion, earth sciences, disaster risk reduction, among others. The CoTeCi team shares its knowledge through lectures, workshops, courses and different dynamics that involve the communities with the activities of the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark.

Born in Mexico City to a family from Huasca, she holds a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from UNAM’s Faculty of Political and Social Sciences.
She has worked as an educator, communications specialist, and public official, serving as Municipal Director of Education, Culture, and Archives from 2016 to 2020.
She has published twelve books, primarily chronicles on the history of Huasca and children’s literature. She is currently developing the series “La muñeca de tela” (Lúa, the Cloth Doll), focused on geoparks and basic science outreach for children.
She serves as an advisor to the Technical Scientific Advisory Committee for the UNESCO Global Geopark Comarca Minera in the areas of Education and Childhood.
She has collaborated with the Geopark since its project phase in 2016, contributing to education initiatives, children’s activities, and the Basura Cero (Zero Waste) programme.

Born in Ixmiquilpan on July 19, 1954, he moved to Pachuca at the age of four. A passionate rock climber, he has undertaken ascents in the Alps, Andes, Rocky Mountains, and various Mexican mountain ranges, opening more than 100 climbing routes in the Sierra de Pachuca. He worked for SAGARPA (1970–2002) and served as a rescue and survival instructor for the Hidalgo State Public Security Secretariat. He has taught climbing at Universidad La Salle Pachuca and ITM Campus Hidalgo. He wrote articles on climbing and co-authored the book Pachuca: La Otra Ciudad.

He collaborates with the Geopark in the opening of routes and trails and in research related to Alexander von Humboldt’s visit to the Comarca Minera.

She is currently pursuing a degree in Political Science and Public Administration and holds a technical qualification in Fiscal and Accounting Computing, along with certifications in professional skills and public budgeting.
She served as Municipal Internal Comptroller in Huasca (2016–2020), President of Region II of Municipal Comptrollers (2020), and Board Member of the State Anti-Corruption System (2019–2020). She promotes disability inclusion through the initiative “Un Mundo para Todos” and is a member of AHPAAC.

Her main areas of collaboration with the UNESCO Global Geopark Comarca Minera include:

•Gender equity and disability inclusion.
•Management of agreements and inclusive activities across the municipalities of the Geopark.

Physicist with a Ph.D. in Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (UNAM). She has served as a Full-Time Academic Technician at the Institute of Geophysics since 1998 and specializes in archaeomagnetism. She is Head of the Geophysics Museum and Communications Coordinator of the Institute of Geophysics. She teaches at ENCIT, the Faculty of Sciences, and the Graduate Programme in Earth Sciences. She has designed science outreach workshops, the “Earthquakes and Volcanoes” application for the UNAM store, and the interactive exhibit Volcanoes. She has authored 40 scientific publications and served as reviewer of the Field Guide and the book Geolandscapes: Art and Science of the UNESCO Global Geopark Comarca Minera.

She collaborates with the Geopark in the development of outreach and communication materials.

EPhysicist trained at UNAM. He completed his social service at the Institute of Geophysics under Dr. Cinna Lomnitz and worked with seismologist Shri Krishna Singh, later joining the National Seismological Service as an analyst. In 2000, he began his career in science communication at Fisilab and Astrolab, delivering astronomy workshops. He later worked at Papalote Museo del Niño, coordinating educational programmes and scientific content. In 2014, he returned to UNAM to join the Geophysics Museum, where he develops educational programmes and participates in the PAUTA programme. His career has focused on education and scientific outreach.

He collaborates in the delivery of Earth science workshops for children within the Geopark.

Physicist from the Faculty of Sciences at UNAM and holder of a Master of Science degree with specialization in Paleomagnetism from the Institute of Geophysics. He currently works as science communicator and Coordinator of Educational Services at the Geophysics Museum, UNAM. He holds a diploma in Science Communication from DGDC-UNAM.

He contributes to the development of Earth science workshops for children within the Geopark.

She holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences, a Master’s degree in Regional Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Since 2006, she has been a Full-Time Tenured Researcher "A" at the Academic Unit of Regional Studies (UAER) of UNAM, and its Coordinator since 2018. Honorary State Researcher in the Register of Researchers of Michoacán 2023-2026 and a Level 2 member of the SNII, her research addresses collective action in water management, indigenous-peasant organizations, and agri-food systems. She has coordinated projects funded by GTZ, PAPIIT-UNAM, and CNDH. She is part of academic networks such as the Red en Sistemas Agroalimentarios Localizados-CONACYT and the Asociación Mexicana sobre Estudios Rurales. She collaborates with the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark with proposals for citizen participation in flood-risk zones within the region and participates in the dissemination of Science for girls and boys.

IResearcher UAER-UNAM. Bachelor’s Degree in History, FFyL, UNAM. Master’s and Ph.D. in Anthropology, University of Salamanca, Spain. Member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) Level 1. Research lines: bioculture, Environmental History, Comparative History. Areas of interest: History of heritage and biocultural landscapes, traditional trades, human-nature relationship, construction, conservation and dissemination of biocultural heritage and landscapes through their historical and current study, eco-barometer.

The main lines of collaboration with the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark are:

• Collaborator on the UNAM project, PAPIIT IT 00923.
• Co-organization and participation in participatory workshops in the region of the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark.
• Generation of databases with socio-environmental information in the region of the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark.
• Participation in Science for Girls and Boys.

Outstanding researcher in the field of Geomagnetism and Environmental Geophysics

He is a distinguished researcher in the field of Geomagnetism and Environmental Geophysics. Currently, he serves as a Full-Time Senior Academic Technician "B" at the Institute of Geophysics, Michoacán Unit. With 9 years of experience at UNAM, his work focuses on the study of terrestrial magnetic fields and their impact on the environment. He has published numerous articles in high-impact scientific journals and has participated in multiple international conferences, sharing his findings and collaborating with experts from around the world. His dedication to research and his passion for geophysics have positioned him as a respected figure in his field.

The main lines of collaboration with the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark are:

• Participates in the project “Determination of heavy metals in urban dust in the mining city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico”.
