Mineral del Chico
2.5 Myr Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.
Peña del Cuervo is a natural observation point located in the center of the El Chico National Park, from where one can enjoy the impressive landscape views of a forested part of the Comarca Minera.
Its scenic value is evident from the panoramic view offered by the relict fir forest found within the El Chico National Park on soils formed by the chemical and physical weathering of volcanic rocks of dacitic composition, which as a whole have shaped this landscape. The igneous rocks that make up Peña del Cuervo were formed approximately 2.5 million years ago due to the volcanic activity of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Axis and are part of the Zumate Formation The rock formations known as “Las Monjas” and “Los Frailes” can be seen from this site.
From the viewpoint it is possible to see natural landscapes with fir, pine and oak forests inhabited by birds such as falcons and eagles.
To get there from Pachuca take the road to Real del Monte and follow the road to Mineral del Chico, towards Valle de los Enamorados and there take the detour towards the rock. The estimated time is 46 minutes.
