Around the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary, the rocks underwent strong folding due to the Laramide Orogeny. The folded structures were overturned to the west, and reverse faults were formed. In the Eocene a system of mainly NW-SE normal faults was established.

This low-sulfidation epithermal deposit has been productive for more than 400 years. The mineralization, of Miocene age, includes minerals such as quartz, pyrite, calcite, rhodonite-bustamite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, argentite and acanthite. Minor amounts of other valuable minerals are also found.
