INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER RISK REDUCTION 2023
The Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark carried out this day of activities with the collaboration of the Geoparks Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (GeoLAC Network), the Geophysics Institute of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Undersecretariat of Civil Protection of the State of Hidalgo, the Hidalgo Institute for Municipal Development (INDEMUN) and the Universidad Tecnológica of Mineral de la Reforma.
The event was held in October 12, 13 and 14, 2023 and was organized by the Comarca Minera UNESCO Global Geopark, located in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, which in turn hosted the virtual and face-to-face event. The program of activities developed over three days included virtual conferences transmitted via zoom on disaster risk reduction prevention, a virtual workshop on the use of technology in the analysis of urban areas applied to risk management and a face-to-face workshop on the preparation of risk maps, their use and updating.
From the professional experience of the speakers, different perspectives and topics related to disasters and the effects of climate change were addressed, including the importance of the vulnerability of the population to disasters, the participatory action of the population, local and national authorities, international organizations and academia in the development of strategies for emergency planning and management; another topic that was emphasized was the education of the population on the proper use of resources such as water, waste treatment and the impacts of pollution.
