GEOSITE DESCRIPTION

It is a 33-meter-high statue (the image measures 23 meters and its base 10 meters), symbolizing the age at which Jesus of Nazareth died, it is located on the Cerro de Santa Apolonia, which is surrounded by old mines.

In 1980 a group of miners went to the priest Alfonso Romero Ruiz of the parish of San Francisco, to ask for help and fulfill a promise they made, when in the Paricutin mine they were trapped by accident in the elevator, before the pain, despair and days of starvation, they promised to build this monument in case they were saved. The statue of Christ the King, designed by engineer José Luis Lugo Vera and architect César C. Nárvaez Benítez, began to be built in 1982 with the financial support of the priest Alfonso Romero Ruiz, the parish community of San Francisco, the Real del Monte and Pachuca Company, as well as various donations from the residents of Pachuca and institutions, and was inaugurated in 1996.
